Headaches

Do you suffer from headaches? You are not alone. Millions of people get headaches regularly. In fact, headaches are one of the most common physical complaints that prompt people to treat themselves or get professional assistance.

Researchers have often noted the relationship between the spine and many types of headaches. For example, one study of 6,000 long-term (two to 25 years) headache sufferers revealed that neck injury (whiplash, falls) was the most important factor in the cause of the headache and should be suspected in every nonspecific case of headache.

Headaches can compromise your quality of life. They tend to be distracting and can therefore account for random days loss from work or quality time away from family. The “ache” in headache does not come from the brain. Your brain can feel no sensation. There are veins and arteries inside the brain and skull, membranes that wrap around the brain and certain nerves in the head called the cranial nerves. When these are pulled, stretched, compressed, irritated, inflamed or infected, headaches often result. If you suffer from headaches, a chiropractic spinal checkup is one of the best things you can do.

Many things can cause a headache, such as strong smells; intense lights; sinus trouble; high blood pressure; dental problems; ear, eye or vision conditions; fevers; infections; tumors; seizures; lumbar punctures; alcoholic drinks and other causes. You can get a headache just worrying about all the things that cause them. These are usually referred to as tension-type headaches, although there are several types of headaches.

Tension-type headaches are most frequent. The pain is usually mild to moderate, felt on both sides of the head, and is often described as tight, stiff, constricting-like having something wrapped around your head and pressing tightly.

Migraines are more severe, throbbing headaches that afflict far fewer people, usually hurt on one side of the head, with loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, and may involve a visual change called an aura.

Cerviogenic headache is a muskuloskelatal form of tension-type headache. There is some possibility that these are related to migraines although cerviogenic headaches go undiagnosed as such due to the relative newness of this classification.

If you suffer from any type of headache, Chiropractic care may help.Chiropractic’s is safe, gentle, drugless methods have helped millions of headache sufferers over the years. Yet chiropractic does not claim to be a headache treatment and cure-it has a different approach to health care. Doctors of chiropractic free your body from the vertebral subluxations complex that has the power to destroy your health.

Spinal adjustments have even shown to be as effective as some medicines in reducing the severity and frequency of headaches.Chiropractic is particularly noted for dealing with cervicogenic headaches. Even though this type of headache as well as other tension-type headaches may not actually involve stress or muscle tension, a spinal adjustment seems to lessen or remove the forces contributing to many individuals headache pain.
